The Project

Project summary

Our project aims to help young people—especially those from marginalized backgrounds—reach their potential by teaching them lifesaving, emergency prevention, and survival skills. While learning these practical abilities, they will also develop soft skills such as teamwork, confidence, and self-esteem. By taking action in emergencies and showing responsibility, these young people can change how society perceives them and gain recognition for their abilities.

Research shows that socially disadvantaged youth often avoid activities due to low confidence. Our course will include reflection and feedback sessions to help participants recognize their progress and achievements. Marginalization may result from social background, ethnicity, or appearance, and is often linked to poor school performance. Non-formal education has proven effective in building confidence and practical skills among such youth.

The project will positively impact participants by promoting healthy lifestyles, active citizenship, and social inclusion. We will also create a handbook for youth workers outlining our methods and best practices. This handbook will be translated into Italian, German, Romanian, Hungarian, and English, with a limited number of printed copies. Our goal is to raise awareness among youth workers of how civil protection and survival skills training can transform the lives of marginalized young people.

Main objectives

OUTPUTS:

The project’s main objectives are:

– fostering changes in the perceptions of marginalised young people in the society;

– promoting cross-sectoral partnerships and collaborations in order to increase capacity of the partners and increase quality of work;

– raising awareness on how civil protection and survival skills training can spread European Union common values, such as human dignity, equality and democracy;

OUTCOMES:

The project will create a Handbook and Guidebook for youth workers and civil protection professionals to teach young people how to handle emergencies, prevent dangerous situations, and survive in nature using basic equipment. The course will also develop essential soft skills such as teamwork, communication, and trust. Youth workers will be trained to deliver the program effectively. As outcomes, the project aims to boost participants’ confidence and self-esteem, foster a sense of belonging, and strengthen collaboration between youth and civil protection sectors through wider use of the course materials.

Target groups

DIRECT

The project’s direct target group is marginalized young people, particularly those from rural areas and diverse ethnic backgrounds—such as Roma youth in Hungary and Romania, and minority youth in Austria and Italy—who face challenges in becoming active members of their communities.

INDIRECT

The indirect target groups include civil protection organizations, parents, peers, employers, schools, and youth workers. These groups will benefit through stronger partnerships, increased volunteering opportunities, and positive behavioral changes among young participants that can influence families, peers, and educational environments.
